BAD! Kitty is the very first painting I did with plaster. It is also the painting that helped me to figure out all those years ago, what I wanted to name my art studio. I love the play on words of BAD! Kitty, being that I am a grrrrrl, and that my kitty was just a baby at the time and she insisted on walking on ever. single. painting. I did before they were dry. So, I found myself yelling NO! BAD! Kitty and chasing her down to clean her baby paws off. This painting even has a tiny baby kitty footprint on the bottom of it, it’s faint but…you’ll just have to look for it. So, this kitty, he’s my BAD side, you know the one that stays up all night, sings in the moonlight (badly), smokes cigars, sleeps around, talks like a sailor, and is generally ill tempered during the full moon. He will also throw down in any back ally if you look at him crossed eyed or complain about his singing voice. He’s scruffy, and lovable and full of cat-attitude.

I’ve never offered him for sale before (at a reduced price I mean) because I love him living in the studio with me. I have started another painting just like him with a different kitty (a grrrrl kitty) and he’s telling me it’s ok for him to go live in a new place.

In other news I am working with a much lower client load today which means I will be able to work on my new painting (pictured above) I have already painted in the birds and am going to dive in and work on her dress and my trees for the background. I have decided to not put in the school house and a lot of the other details because I like her face and want that to be the focus of the work. She has old eyes...seems she has seen quite a bit of the world and life...and I like that about her...she's...Worldly.

So I hope everyone has a great day, I'll post pictures of the work later on so stay tuned.

Well yesterday was a little slower with clients so I did get to start a painting...it didn't go well, I found out that being really brain tired isn't really great for creating art. It's not all bad, I mean I think I can save the work today with a few changes...but it didn't pour out of me effortlessly like they usually do, and that's hard to get used to.

I have a busy schedule today with client load, and the kids are home, and my house is a wreck, and I want to work on the painting, and my right eye is all swollen like I got punched because of a medication allergy...I look wonderful...Miss USA here I come...BLECH! You see I had this small stroke while giving birth the last time, and even though I recovered from the stroke just fine, my right eye was damaged. It started out as just a black spot like a football shape in my peripheral vision, but it has grown over the years and I am losing my sight in that eye...it's so annoying. They (the doctors) have been trying to fix it for years, but it just keeps getting worse in that eye...whatever...I still have a good left eye, so it's not that big a deal, it's just inconvenient...but this new medication proved to be a failure and that eye is swollen shut now...and that is a big pain in my ass!

Well enough about my fantastic beauty...I've managed to bore myself with that story.

So, I have to get to work soon...and I have a double booked client day so...I better eat my Wheaties and put the peddle to the metal on my day.

So...I fought the white canvas ( I said to it..."come on you white bastard, bring it!") and won yesterday. Ending up with a wildly deep red and an extremely cool texture for a background...(kind of funny, really...I was in a battle and painted it all in red... dontcha think? I still have blood red fingers from all my fighting back the whiteness yesterday...and I like them...proof of my victory...OK I am a little morbid today) As soon as the sun rises up I'll take some shots of it to share here.

I started with no plan, as promised, and I feel really good about the results so far...I love the migrating reds...it's one of the few colors I have left in abundance and one of my favorites to boot so I had fun working in an all RED world yesterday.

My spirit of adventure is alive and kicking. (ass)

I did find some gold powders the other day, I have just a touch left in the bottom a jar so I am going to play around with that today on this work and see what happens. Personal security...aaahhhh it feels so fine.

In other news...the kids have already started marking off the days left in school...OY! As if the count down to summer madness is a good thing...as if!

I finally got around to making a birthday cake for Mate Man's birthday...it was at the top of the month...but we were broke and didn't really celebrate it this year...well we did, but it was a private celebration...just for grown-ups...tee-hehe.

So, I got out the big book of recipes and made a cake yesterday...it turned out super rich and yummy...today my tummy is still mad as hell with me for eating all that sugar...I don't tolerate the sweets like I used too...before the illness. But Man do I still love me some homemade chocolate cake!

I am off to work like a crazy lady for the rest of the day...the final countdown starts today on the gallery show...just four weeks left to deliver 15 new works...officially I have five done...whew, that's a load off *insert sarcasm here*...only ten more to go in actually just a little under 3.5 weeks time (drying time, framing/hanging, documenting and papering each one and so on takes a lot of time, dontcha know)

so...I better get busy and burn rubber on my day here. More later with the new work pics...

Today the boys go back to school and I have some quite time to finish the new canvas...I am going to post a picture of it later today when the sun gets higher and the light better for taking pictures. A new work in progress and I am happy that things are moving with the muse again. Yippee for school, is all I can say.

I did get some good work done yesterday, between the snacks, and every kid in the hood wanting to ring the doorbell and play with the boys...so I am really looking forward to a free to paint day.

I hope all is well in your world, and that the universe is a wonderful place for you to dwell in today.

I plan to start another new painting, with no planning at all...I don't even know what I will be doing at all... no clue yet, but because I am working with limited paint colours (still hoping for a sale so I can re-invest in supplies) it should be fun none the less. I can't let lack of funds stop my progress as the days and weeks before the show are still passing by. It'll just have to be an opportunity instead of an obstacle. Challenge is good for the creative soul...I hope. *grins*

Oh yeah, you might have noticed the new quote pictures I have been doing, they are from my collection of vintage ephemera and also the source for the new fairy's! I am thinking about putting a collection of these images together for sale on CD, would anyone be interested in buying them though?

That's the question of the day...would any of my artist friends out there have a need/want for something like that? I am always looking for images to use in my work (to use in my mixed media paintings, like fairy world, and for models for my paintings), at this point I have a huge gathered collection of images for my own use...and I thought maybe some of you might like that too...as far as cost...I was thinking like maybe $10.00 + shipping, each for a collection of say 150 images all jpeg and high resolution...and royalty free. So, some feedback on that would be great...before I embark on another project that is.

A Bill of rights for the Inner you

Have you had to amend a belief because it didn't work for you? Do you have a personal bill of rights? I do...and here are some them. I look at them often to keep my bearings in this world. They also help me to keep the Art Pure!

Amendment One

No person or persons shall put you down or disparage you in any way. Detach instantly from negative comments or put-downs. Do not carry the words with you for they will rob you of your power. Let go of it all and step into peace.

Amendment Two

All persons have the freedom to explore any and all belief systems and practices, no matter how silly! We are all on a journey to find the truth for ourselves. That journey may take you around the world or right next door. Be led by your intuition and feed your curiosity. Your spirit will find its home if you let it.

Amendment Three

You have the right to a second chance, and so does everyone else. There is so much good in every person. Often, all it needs is a chance. Give everyone the opportunity to surprise and delight you. And most importantly, give yourself that chance.

Amendment Four

You have the right to forgive. If you really want to feel your freedom, forgive someone. Forgive someone you have been holding anger towards for years. Go ahead, you'll never feel more free than to forgive.

Amendment Five

You have the right to love. Go where the love is. Walk away from places of strife and turmoil. If you are not safe to love to your fullest, look elsewhere! Your love is a powerful force and the more you give away, the more will return to you.

Amendment Six

These rights are self-evident. They are known because they are true. Give yourself every right to grow and expand in your consciousness and the rest will follow. And if you find your belief system isn't giving you freedom and joy, then, make an amendment.

I will be back at the painting today...working hard to meet the deadlines. The work is coming along and I look forward to being able to share it with you all. I am still waiting for my agent to tell me if the new contract allows for the showing of the finished works here, before the opening. When I know the answer there will a lot of new work to share! ( I hope!) It's so weird to be working so hard and not be able to just post my daily progress on each of these new works!

Well, I better get to my morning chores so I can be free for the rest of the day to live in the world of colour, tone, texture and creative insanity. Whew...hold on everyone, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

The Chinese art of Feng Shui has been practiced for centuries and it offers some tips for improving, or maintaining your health and energy levels!

According to the experts, one of the best ways you can encourage your own state of well being is to surround yourself with life energy. Fresh flowers and plants will work wonders for your mind, body and spirit in this tradition and Feng Shui practitioners recommend that you put plenty around the house and yard (or whatever space you've got). Just be sure to keep them healthy. Dried flowers are considered bad for your energy (after all, they're dead) and may allow you to stay trapped in old energy or hold onto old patterns that are making you sick in some way (or at least not letting you blossom). Same goes for dying or wilting plants. Silk flowers, on the other hand, will do the trick, especially if you have an allergy or can't spend weekly on the fresh stuff, but the idea is to surround yourself with life force, so obviously, live plants are optimal.

If you really want to take this up another notch, Feng Shui experts recommend getting a pet. A dog, cat, or whatever other house-appropriate animal will help to stimulate your energy and re-root you. They are champions of people who will love you unconditionally, which naturally generates even more positive energy in your home and in your life. Fish are also great life force enhancers...keeping two goldfish and one black goldfish (all together in the same bowl) in your home (goldfish come in many colors) is said to increase your wealth and protect health. So, if you don't have the room or time for a furry friend, consider goldfish for your pet.

You've heard the saying green with envy, right? Well in Feng Shui tradition, that would be green with healthy, since green is the color of health!

Like many other groups, the Chinese believe that certain colors can promote health and spirituality. Green, in particular is said to soothe and replenish the soul, and they suggest that those who are ailing or simply concerned about health wear it often and place it in key areas of their homes. Likewise, they believe that wearing pink melts anger, donning yellow stimulates the mind and putting on a little something blue promotes tranquility. Note which areas you feel you're lacking (or could use a little help with) and dress accordingly. You may find yourself on the sunnier side of things when the day is done!

In Feng Shui tradition, bathrooms can drain your health and your finances. To prevent this from happening, not only is it advisable to decorate your bathrooms in earth tones ("to figuratively dam the leak" as one expert puts it), but make sure you fix any leaky faucets (inside and out) and always turn the water all the way off! Likewise, put the toilet seat down when you leave the room. You don't want to flush your money -- or your well being -- down the toilet!

Like all things, you need to pay attention to your body if you want to be healthy… and you need to send that message to the universe as well. In Feng Shui tradition, most attributes to a life well-lived have an area of the house dedicated to them. Health finds its home in the left-center section of each room and (if you have a yard) in the left-center section of your property (considered when standing at your front door). Make sure this area is tended to. The health area of your home should not be cluttered in anyway, nor should it be the place you store garbage of any sort. On the other hand, your health center shouldn't be completely empty either! Plants and other green items are highly recommended inhabitants of your health space.

So...Use the force, Luke!
I have been using Feng Shui for years in my everyday life; I also have used it's principles in every garden design (or planting done on the farm) I have ever done in the past. I even use it in my paintings and artistic creations, for the benefit of my wealth creation and the health and vitality of the art patron that will live with the work. It really does work wonders for health, wealth and personal vitality. If you are working to create a healthier lifestyle, trying to save money, or looking for that promotion, consider some of these tips for helping you along that path.
I have so much work to do today for the new Gallery show as well as my private life that my head is spinning from the load, but I have lit my good smelling candles, I am wearing energizing and confidence boosting colors and the toliet seat is down...I think I can safely take on anything today. :)

Attention, Attention...where is your focus?

Topic for today...Attention and Awareness

The ability to control where you focus your attention allows you to create your environment. It's something we're all born with, thought that's easy to forget, and it gives us the energy to do work, finish projects and succeed in our endeavors big or small. By increasing your awareness to include the whole picture as well as the details (something that's not easy for everyone - we all tend to get caught up in our own personal minutiae) you enable yourself to react to situations with enough rationality to direct them toward your objectives.

Let's analyze this.

Awareness is influenced by our surroundings (and what we perceive that to mean as individuals). You can consider your environment to be your home, your neighborhood, your state, your country, the world and so on… But the more you're aware of, the broader your scope. The narrower your point of view, the smaller, and conversely, seemingly more important your thoughts are to you. But really, the opposite is true. If you're caught in your own head, stuck only on the details, small things seem bigger and more important than they are. This happens all the time because awareness can only include things we take the time to notice.

But if you recognize that we're all connected, part of a universal energy wherein our individual highest good benefits the greater good, whether or not you had a bad hair day seems insignificant. Likewise, your concern over a rocky relationship lifts to reveal the real issue. If you stay in a situation where you're unhappy without trying to fix it, you're not benefiting anyone, least of all yourself or your partner. There is a world of love out there, waiting for you to be a part of it.

Consider that we become aware by placing our attention on something. Before placing your attention on that thing, it didn't exist for you. Once you became aware of it, it's real and part of your consciousness on some level. By observing, you make things alive in your own universe. On the other hand, when you put less attention on something, it tends to disappear. Problems don't go away, no. But by focusing on the solution, you may find you get there quicker. Remaining focused on bad brings bad. Finding the positive incorporates it into your reality.

Is your life precisely what you wish it to be? If not, no matter the reason, you can still learn to control your attention, and thereby, learn to create it. Does that mean you can materialize something out of nothing? No. Awareness and action work hand in hand. But without the former, all the work in the world may prove useless.

Armed with greater awareness, you can be the change you wish to affect, in your own life and in the world at large.

I am looking into my heart, mind and soul today to see where my attention is needed and where it is not. After working all day at the easel yesterday, (see post below for the work done) I ended the day feeling drained and out of sorts. I kept thinking to myself that the work could be more...perfect I guess, I kept seeing the mistakes I felt I had made in the execution of the work. This led to a poor nights sleep and a tired, foggy me this morning. I did some grounding exercises, and open and cleared my root chakra, and felt better and more in tune. It got me to thinking about where my focus and attention were at. It's important, for me to get outside of my head and look around at the world, the people, the spirit of life, more closely.
My balance was off, I needed to ground myself and work from that place inside myself that allows for imperfection and growth. I realized that none of my works is perfect...and may never attain that level of perfection that we all strive for, but that does not reduce the value of the risks I have taken recently with my new works.
I am growing in my abilities and my focus, that is the real important thing here. Sure I could have stayed working with the forms of art that I am most comfortable with...and gone crazy with boredom...and yes it's a risk to step outside the professional box I am already well know for...but I can't stop myself from being a risk taker, it's who I am.
Realizing that my attention had been narrowed to one imperfect item in my life this morning freed me from going over to the dark side and losing my awareness of who, what and where I really am today.

The Fairy World Series has been a yearlong exploration of my unique brand of Woman. Growing up, I experienced the extremes of the 1970's stereotypical behavior: both of the genders were represented clearly to my little-grrrl self. I learned to fight, to fear the adults of the world, and to loath my biggest birth defect, being born female. I wanted to play war, and I fought regularly, boys mostly. I hated the color pink, which was spoon-fed in every petite little girl bite I took. In long hair and dresses, I went about my life trying to make sense of what it was to be a girl in this world. Seeking balance, seeking my inner truth, coming to grips with the body that was at once, object/commodity, weapon/tool, and all the time weak/powerful, and shameful/virtuous. Learning how to play the roles with gusto, I have traveled 37 years in a body that has not always felt like my own; a rental that is a little short in the legs and itchy in all the spots that are just out of reach. Fairy World allowed me to marry the warrior, and the type, or brand, of woman that I am. I love my grrrl-ness now, a beautiful, complex and scary uniqueness that defies definitions and allows ultimate flexibility. The female form is inherently preprogrammed into us to bring forth many emotions from every human being on the planet. I am one such human, and this is what I see/feel about also being classified as Female Human.

My fairies are not average beauties; they represent the different aspects of my new breed of human being, a complex being that at this time, resides in my gray matter, and now these colorful canvases too. We are all creator and destroyer, we all also have a terminal illness; it's called birth. I am proud to be this complicated being commonly known as Woman, privately known as my tiny, infinite universe. This life is full of potential, pain and change. Choice is like mathematical equations; never ending numbers spiraling into the void, life is choice; choose wisely and often.
