Monday's Goddess 101 - Hecate

BAD! kitty Art Studio
Weekly goddess 101 - Hecate
***

In Greek society, Hecate was known as the goddess of the crossroads. She was considered an underworld goddess, guarding the boundary between life and death -- between the world of the living and the world of spirits and ghosts. Since she is placed at the crossroads of life, she is also a goddess of childbirth, much like the Greek goddess Artemis and the Roman goddess Diana. She was also recognized as a guiding moon goddess. She appeared as the dark part of the moon, lighting the way through the night.

Gods and goddesses represent aspects of the human psyche and human experience, giving us inspiration and a way to make sense out of the confusion life sometimes brings. As a goddess of the crossroads, Hecate can help us when we are between a rock and a hard place, during a life transition or a time of difficult decision-making. Hecate helps one find the courage to trust in intuition, open oneself to love and make important life-changing decisions.

So many of us can relate to Hecate because she was an outsider-goddess. We all know what that feels like! The powers and domains attributed to her are so vast that she can easily be seen as a manifestation of the Great Goddess. In fact, it is more than likely that she is descended from early Mother Goddesses associated with the wilderness and childbirth. She was never officially part of the Greek pantheon of Olympian gods, but she nonetheless played an important and influential role in Greek societies. The she-dog or bitch was, oddly enough, her animal symbol. Later, Greek and Christian patriarchs would unfairly demonize her as a goddess of sorcery and witchcraft. So the next time you hear someone use the B-word, just think of Hecate and all her great power and wisdom!

One of the interesting things about Hecate was her threefold representation. She was often depicted with three heads -- dog, snake, horse or sometimes lion -- or with three distinct bodies. Standards, each bearing masks of one of her heads facing in different directions, were often placed at three-way crossings. Symbolically, this was taken to mean that she had the power to see in all directions (to see all things) and she could be approached by anyone, from anywhere. So, though Hecate was later associated with evil and witchcraft, she was in many ways a warm and welcoming goddess.

Another example of Hecate's goodness (particularly to women) occurs in the myth of Persephone. It was Hecate who crossed over into the underworld and brought Persephone (who had been abducted as bride by Hades, king of the underworld) back to her mother Demeter. As such, Hecate also figures in the trinity of women: Hecate (Wise Woman), Persephone (Bride) and Demeter (Mother) -- also understood as the three phases of a woman's life in Greek society. Later, Hecate would be characterized as the Sorceress Crone, wandering lonely in the night.

Her statue was also often placed at entry points to keep out evil spirits. Because of this practice, conversely it was believed that if offended, she would let evil spirits in. This may be why she later became known as the Queen of Ghosts.

Today, Hecate has been appropriated by feminist-inspired neo-pagan religions like Wicca. Whether she is the Crone or the Maiden, Hecate is an inspiration, someone who can see and be all things. She is someone who can navigate between many worlds -- this world and the underworld, the conscious and subconscious, reason and intuition, the dream world and the world where dreams come true. She can be called on at every crossroads.

Being a Woman of Greek heritage myself, I loved reading and studying mythology as a child. I collected books and all kinds of research materials about every one I could find. Now I love the myths about the males too...but the goddess stories are what really excite me. I learn a lot from re-reading and studying them still today. When I was little I used to fantasize that I was Athena, because I shoot a wicked bow and arrow too...not to mention that I love bladed weapons. I was always fighting with someone too...so I thought she had to be my personal goddess. Today as a grown-up I realize that they are all my goddesses...the stories are here to teach us more about ourselves...all the aspects of being a female. I hope you enjoy this weekly feature.
I hope you have a "see-in-all-ways" day!

The Truth About Honesty

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
Honesty...
***

Perhaps you can relate - you tell someone the way you feel in a very matter-a-fact way and then you sum it up with, "I am simply being honest." You believe that the word 'honesty' is sacrosanct and that by uttering it, you're off the hook. You believe it should prevent the other person from getting hurt. But to your surprise, oftentimes it doesn't.

While it's wonderful to be truthful, it can come back around and bonk you in the head. Here are some things to remember about honesty:

Honor Your Privacy
I used to feel somewhat guilty or disloyal for not divulging all. I felt compelled to spill all the beans. But now, I realize that there's a difference between honesty and openness. Sometimes the truth doesn't serve the greater good. Consider this scenario: your new beau suggests you dine at a certain sushi restaurant. The eatery reminds you of your ex. The one you're still not completely over. You used to go there all the time. Your new guy is the jealous type. Which response do you chose?

a) You're brutally honest and tell him how you and Sammy used to feed each other spicy tuna rolls in the back booth. (That would be both open and honest!)

b) Lie a little even though your partner has noticed a difference in your demeanor. (That would be both closed and dishonest)

c) Admit that you're experiencing some residual feelings about your past but that it has nothing to do with him and you're not ready to share them. (Closed but honest).

Option C allows you to set necessary boundaries. It's healthy to keep things to yourself and doing so should not be confused with dishonesty. It's called privacy.

Examine Your Motives
Do you share your feelings as a weapon all under the guise of being honest? There must be at least one instance where you've used the truth to hurt or manipulate another. Months after my boyfriend and I broke up, I told him I was going out on a date. "I'm just being honest," I told him. But to be honest, I just wanted to see if he still cared by gauging whether the truth hurt him. Maybe look at your own anger or your desire to punish? Why are you really telling someone the truth?

Exercise Tact and Consideration
A good word to remember in conjunction with honesty is "tact." Tact implies that you're thinking of the other before you open your trap. While it's great to be free and impulsive sometimes, it's mature to realize that words have energy and impact. It's wise to think about how you're going to say things. And it's also wise to think of the consequences that might ensue. Telling my ex boyfriend that I had a date only pushed him further away when what I wanted was the opposite. Exercise discretion. And ask yourself, "will the information I want to share hurt the other for no good reason?" If you're intentions are pure and you can deliver them in a respectful way, then go for it. With tact, we exercise more choices. We don't let our unconscious lead us to impulsive action while we rationalize it as being honest. Be honest without giving it all away.

Take it with a Grain of Salt
If you are the recipient of brutal honesty, it's wise to take the information with a grain of salt. Perhaps the person is being malicious or perhaps the person doesn't know the meaning of tact. Use your intuition and try not to take the truth in an ultra personal way. Maybe they don't know any better. Perhaps you can even ask them point blank, what their motives are for bearing it all.

By exercising restraint, tact and mutual understanding all things can be worked out.
***
Telling the truth is hard to sometimes do, sometimes it's even harder to NOT do as well. I have learned and am still learning the whole set of rules around this issue and yes it's caused some grief and stress in my life. Being raised in the south, and learning manners as a child...I thought that I could not get angry...it just wasn't right for females to do. Then as an adult and having years of not expressing myself honestly with people, I became what they call brutally honest. During that phase of my life I learned how to moderate my emotions, to be civil, to not always say exactly what was on mind...all the time. Recently I had to revisit this lesson in my life and to be 'honest' it really stressed me out to the extreme. I need to talk about my feelings, I also have to continue to learn moderation and self control at times...I am only human. To become the very best me I can become I have learned that when you act in a wrong way, it's damned uncomfortable but still necessary to be honest about it and fess up, say you are sorry and mean it. Forgiveness is not something we get from other people, or that we give away...it's a gift we give to ourselves. So, recently I had to think long and hard about my actions, and then be willing to admit where I was wrong, and then give myself a break and forgive myself for my stupid actions. That does not mean I got off easy, because I will have to in the future remember this lesson when faced with the situations that arise in life...and I have to remember my embarrassment at having acted out in a way that is against my own nature. While researching the nature of honesty and trying to discover why I acted the way I did...I put these things together...I am human, not perfect and not trying to be. We all make mistakes, and sometimes it's in telling too much truth.
I hope you all have a happy Sunday,

Got Friends?

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
(above) Mixed Media, laminated Collage
'Trust thyself'
by: HMBT 2006
***

They say that to have a friend you must be one. But before you know it, the week has whizzed by and you still haven't called your friend back - the one who needed your advice. With our hectic lives, being a good ally is sometimes a bit of a challenge. And with the holidays around the corner, it's easy to become even more self-absorbed than usual. So here are some easy reminders on what constitutes a reliable and dear friend:

Reach Out
Take five minutes to send your friend a phone text or an email. Tell her you miss her, you're thinking of her and that you will call her (back) on the weekend. And then commit to that promise. If you're a flake, write it down in your day planner. Keeping up with what's going on in your friend's lives, asking specific questions and remembering to call them on a big day means a lot. Also consider surprising your BFFs. Send them something thoughtful like a card for absolutely no reason other than you love and appreciate them.

Lend an Ear
Remember to shut up once in a while. Make sure you aren't always the one who is blabbing away. Friendships are a give and take! Really listen to your friend's thoughts and feelings before you chime in because it's important to really understand their point of view. And, "only give advice or an alternative perspective if asked. In other words, don't therapize," says Neil Fiore, psychologist and author of Awaken Your Strongest Self: Break Free of Stress, Inner Conflict, and Self-Sabotage. When they do confide in you, let them know that their secrets are safe. Respect is key.

Keep Them On Track
We are here to support our friends because we have their best interests in mind. Right? So therefore there's no room for jealousy and catty low blows. Are you a sister or not? Remind your friends of their goals and values, and express confusion/wonderment if you see them deviating from their aims (yet refrain from judgment). For example say, "I'm confused. I thought you wanted to... quit smoking; find someone for a long-term relationship; learn how to face your fears instead of giving in to them."

Practice Patience
You aren't perfect all the time and neither will your pals be. Be willing to put up with them if they're acting inappropriately or testing the limits of the friendship, adds Fiore. You have to stick around some tough times to get to the good stuff.

Also if the 'tude is flaring up, infuse some humor into the current predicament -- because none of us should ever take ourselves too seriously. It will lighten up the mood.

To find out if you're a friend supreme, here is a piece of advice for every letter of the alphabet. The excerpt is taken from Friends Are Everything, written by author and speaker BJ Gallagher www.womenneed2know.com.

A FRIEND …

Accepts you, warts and all.
Believes in your potential.
Comforts you when you're sad.
Delights in your successes.
Empathizes with your struggles.
Forgives you when you hurt her feelings, just as you do for her.
Gives you time and attention.
Hugs you … often.
Inspires you to do your best.
Just loves you.
Keeps your secrets.
Listens with her heart.
Makes you want to be a better person.
Never judges you.
Occasionally disappoints you 'cause she's human, too.
Points out your good qualities when you forget.
Questions you when you're about to do something dumb.
Respects your boundaries.
Shares her hopes and fears with you.
Tells you the truth… with love.
Understands you, even when you don't understand yourself.
Values your ideas and opinions.
Will do anything she can to help you.
Xtends you the benefit of the doubt.
Yearns to hear from you when you're away.
Zings with joy 'cause you're her friend!

Share your Love today with someone who needs it.
Be kind to each other.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Christmas Ideas

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
Christmas Ideas that don't cost much.
***

Let's face it--the holidays may be filling for the soul, but they're also a drain on our wallets. All that thankfulness and feasting wasn't cheap, and if you factor in your travel plans and the unexpected expenses of expected house guests, you may be running low long before you get to the first name on your list. That's no reason to skip out on the good cheer; contrary to what Microsoft and Sony may have you believe, the most thoughtful gifts don't have to be the most expensive. In fact, often it's the gestures in which we invest more thought and less cash that are most appreciated.

Here are a few ideas on how to say more with less.

Pay Tribute
If you're dubious about investing in the tradition of inexpensive presents, take a moment to think about the custom of exchanging gifts. It's-the-thought-that-count-isms aside, it has very little to do with the accumulation of material goods. If that were the case we'd simply exchange money and direct our loved ones to their favorite consumer markets. No, we exchange gifts because they are tokens of our appreciation for one another. And what better way than to give your loved one a gift that commemorates your relationship -- something that gives tribute to a time you've spent together or a special secret you share?

What about a purple butterfly reminiscent of a certain childhood Halloween costume or a framed landscape in memory of your trip to the Grand Canyon? Photo-collages and scrap books are wonderful ways to create gifts that make your sincerity and thoughtfulness unmistakable. Another way to acknowledge your bond is to pay tribute to shared interests. If you know you and your neighbor harbor a secret love of painting, give him some paints and a canvas, or paint him a first draft of a masterpiece and suggest that you start a tradition of sharing your works. Or give a co-worker and fellow hiking-enthusiast a collection of brochures on nearby hiking sites you'd be willing to try together. Memories, inside jokes and shared interests are all excellent tributes to your relationships with people. And if you think about it, you'll find you share those in common with old friends and family as well as those friends you've recently met -- it doesn't take long to accumulate commonalities. Even if you can't resist investing some cold hard cash in your gift exchange, try sticking to specific ideas that honor your relationships -- those are the gifts that will be remembered for years to come.

Knowledge is Appreciation
People ache to be understood and appreciated for who they are. While gift baskets and gift cards say "I acknowledge we're friends," with a little more thought (and often less money) you can say "I've been paying attention and appreciate you for the unique person you are." Think about the giftee and find a way to acknowledge his or her interests, needs, habits or innate talents. Has she mentioned that she's always wanted to go to France, or has he shown a knack for picking up languages? Grab a language book or set of CDs at a garage sale or on eBay, and include a card describing your observations. Chances are you're friend will be delighted to add fuel to her dream or flattered that you recognized his aptitude. There are countless other ways to show that you know a person. If your brother is always losing his keys, make him a key rack or find an over sized key ring. A friend who's always low on meter money might appreciate a trove of quarters for her car. Your gift may only be a token, but it shows that you care enough to really see the people you care about, which is really why we bother giving gifts at all.

Sponsor a retreat
You may wish you could give everyone on your list a weekend spa retreat, but what if you could give the equivalent on a budget? Instead of sending her to La Bellisima, give your friend or family member a more realistic gesture that still says you believe they deserve a break. Give them a gift certificate to watch their kids or pets for an afternoon or a few days (and make sure to let them know how much notice you need so you can make good on your promise). Including a small gift pack can help facilitate much-needed mini-vacations; try coloring books, DVDs or games for the kids or treats and toys for the pets. If there aren't any dependants of the standard or four-legged variety, let them know that they should get away -- you'd be happy to take care of the mail and the plants -- or, if the relationship is close enough, offer a 30-minute massage or mini-pedicure at their convenience.

There are many versions of vacation, just as there are many ways to package your appreciation for your loved ones. Don't ever feel confined by the limitations of Macy's, or of your bank account. In the end, it's your thoughtfulness that will be appreciated, not your shopping bankroll, and you have more than enough of that to spare.
Have a wonderful day all,
Heather

Being Creative, what does that mean?

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
Topic for today...Creativity.
***
By Douglas Eby

Healthy criticism can help refine our talents and creative projects in the pursuit of excellence. But when it is based on excessive perfectionism or an unrealistic self concept, criticism can be destructive and self-limiting, eroding our creative assurance and vitality.

Many creative people, even when they have achieved recognition for their talents, may experience self-critical thoughts and insecurity.

Irish writer John Banville, just before receiving The Booker Prize, considered the world's most prestigious award for new fiction, was sure he would not win; "I tend to think all my books are bad,” he said.

Many talented film actors report they don’t watch their own movies. When you can be seen in close-ups on twenty foot high theater screens, it may be especially hard not to criticize your appearance and performance. Joaquin Phoenix has said he doesn't like how his teeth look, or his lips. Kate Winslet has admitted that before going off to a movie shoot, she sometimes thinks, “I’m a fraud, and they're going to fire me... I'm fat; I'm ugly.”

Highly creative and talented people are, according to research on giftedness, often susceptible to perfectionism and unreasonably high standards and expectations that can lead to exaggerated criticism.

Lesley Sword, director of Gifted and Creative Services, in Australia, finds that gifted children are “highly self critical and over reactive to the criticism of others. They express dissatisfaction with themselves; they see what ‘ought to be’ in themselves... They have a vision of perfectionism that they measure themselves against and they can become despondent sometimes even depressed, at their perceived failure.”

Children who have strong abilities may get praised for their creative projects, but miss out on learning that criticism may be helpful, or that perseverance and time are needed to develop talents fully. Then as adults, when their painting or book or movie does not come together quickly or “perfectly” enough, they can be harshly critical of themselves.

And standards for what is “good” creative work have typically been developed by males, based on male values and male artists, rather than recognizing women as having equal, though perhaps different, creative sensibilities.

Impostor feelings can also accompany or lead to self-criticism. Jonathan Safran Foer, author of the novel Everything Is Illuminated, said, “I can be very hard on myself. I convince myself that I'm fooling people. Or, I convince myself that people like the book for the wrong reasons.”

Ideas about identity can also be limiting. Director Jane Campion, praised for "The Piano" and other films, once commented, "I never have had the confidence to approach film making straight on. I just thought it was something done by geniuses, and I was very clear that I wasn't one of those."

Another example is Nobel Prize winner poet and writer Czeslaw Milosz, who once said, “From early on writing for me has been a way to overcome my real or imagined worthlessness.”

These are not unusual cases, according to researchers. Many people with exceptional abilities experience complex feelings including inadequacy and inferiority, and critical self-evaluation.

In her book The Gifted Adult, Mary-Elaine Jacobsen writes about common judgments people often hear from others — disparaging comments that over time can be taken on as self-criticism: "Why don't you slow down?"; "You worry about everything!"; "Can't you just stick with one thing?": "You're so sensitive and dramatic!"; "You have to do everything the hard way!"

One way to counter such criticism from others, and yourself, may be to use some humor. In the witty tv series “Bones,” cocky FBI Agent Seeley Booth (played by David Boreanaz) often makes snide remarks about forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance 'Bones' Brennan (Emily Deschanel), such as “We call you people ‘squints,’ because they're always squinting at things.”

And she retorts, “You mean people with high IQs and basic reasoning skills?” In another scene, he expresses impatience with her self-assurance: “You are such a smartass,” and she comes right back with, “Yes, I am smart, but it has nothing to do with my ass.”

This is a form of the approach used in cognitive behavioral therapy to help people overcome depression, anxiety and other challenges: becoming aware of self-critical and negative thoughts, examining them carefully and logically, then editing or rephrasing them.

These thoughts are often irrational beliefs about how life is or how we "should be” and they can become habitual responses to stressful situations, and often too broad to be accurate.

For example, you may think, “I’m too sensitive.” Well, what does that really mean? Too sensitive for what? Maybe it’s just there are situations that cause you more discomfort than you want to put up with. Amy Brenneman [star of “Judging Amy”] was once said, “I'm too sensitive to watch most of the reality shows. It's so painful for me.”

But that is a much more concrete and specific, and therefore real, statement than simply “I’m too sensitive.” And being sensitive, after all, can be a virtue for anyone.

Some people find carefully crafted affirmations placed where you can regularly read them can counteract unrealistic and self-limiting criticism and thinking.

One way to modulate self-critical statements is to ask, If you made this kind of comment to your friend or child, would it be helpful to them? Would it encourage and support them?

And some critical thinking can be positive, when it isn’t extreme, compulsive or unreal. As actor Will Smith noted, “I keep going because I doubt myself. It drives me to be better... It makes me excel.”

Geena Davis, playing the lead in the tv series “Commander in Chief” thinks “you could scratch the surface of most actors and find insecurity played a big part in their drive to become successful." •

I have been dreaming a lot lately...about my new work and about work I want to create. I keep a little diary about these dreams so that I won't forget about them later. It keeps me feeling creative.
I have been researching creativity lately too, trying to scientifically put a finger on what it is, and maybe how to create more of it in myself. I don't feel like a fraud anymore, but I admit that I spent many years early on feeling that way often. For me these days my work is really very personal, in the past it was based on things, situations, life experiences from my past and other works of art that inspired that feeling of creativity.

Today I find that my work represents the 'moments' of my life, the actual moments of my living. I create artwork because I have to. The choice to create isn't always in my control...sometimes I feel as though I will actually explode without making something with my hands, heart and brain.

In my recent research on the subject matter I find this to be a common thread among most creative people, no matter what it is they "do".
Today as my hands have returned to my control...I will work. I really can't wait to finish here, get the boys ready for school and get them out the door...so I can be alone with my easel and paints. It's been three days of pain and illness, and I am ready to expend that pent up energy.
I hope you all have a day filled with creative passion about your own lives.
Have a good one,
Heather

Ok, Ok I get it!

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
Follow-up

So I see by my views for the day and the few private emails I have gotten...that the whole subject of being poor isn't going over well...I get it... it is the season to be Jolly...and all that.
I just wanted to make a point about the fact that there is a big bad world out there...and people have various methods of coping with it. Being that I am a number 9 (See Yesterdays post) I seem to have this desire to try to elevate and make things better for not just myself, but for humanity as a whole. Is that so wrong? :)
I know the answer to that...it sure won't make friends and impress people that's for sure.
It's just reality bites for some people...I happen to be one of them right now. It's not that I am crying poor-mouth or asking for a hand-out. I would welcome the chance to work...a hand-up instead. Love given freely, and not pity...It's hard work living dreams, taking risks, telling the truth...very hard work indeed.
So, I'll go back to happy go lucky posts but not for your sake, I do it for my own. I am not one to dwell in the places of hurt and sorrow....I can be inspired to do something about them though...for myself and my fellow Human.
So, onward and upward...I am not poor in any other way than the social definition...I have a rich inner life.
Really I do. :)
Hope your day is bright and shiny,

Being Poor Is...

Being Poor
Being poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs.

Being poor is getting angry at your kids for asking for all the crap they see on TV.

Being poor is having to keep buying $800 cars because they're what you can afford, and then having the cars break down on you, because there's not an $800 car in America that's worth a damn.

Being poor is hoping the toothache goes away.

Being poor is knowing your kid goes to friends' houses but never has friends over to yours.

Being poor is going to the restroom before you get in the school lunch line so your friends will be ahead of you and won't hear you say "I get free lunch" when you get to the cashier.

Being poor is living next to the freeway.

Being poor is coming back to the car with your children in the back seat, clutching that box of Raisin Bran you just bought and trying to think of a way to make the kids understand that the box has to last.

Being poor is wondering if your well-off sibling is lying when he says he doesn't mind when you ask for help.

Being poor is off-brand toys.

Being poor is a heater in only one room of the house.

Being poor is knowing you can't leave $5 on the coffee table when your friends are around.

Being poor is hoping your kids don't have a growth spurt.

Being poor is stealing meat from the store, frying it up before your mom gets home and then telling her she doesn't have make dinner tonight because you're not hungry anyway.

Being poor is Goodwill underwear.

Being poor is not enough space for everyone who lives with you.

Being poor is feeling the glued soles tear off your supermarket shoes when you run around the playground.

Being poor is your kid's school being the one with the 15-year-old textbooks and no air conditioning.

Being poor is thinking $8 an hour is a really good deal.

Being poor is relying on people who don't give a damn about you.

Being poor is an overnight shift under florescent lights.

Being poor is finding the letter your mom wrote to your dad, begging him for the child support.

Being poor is a bathtub you have to empty into the toilet.

Being poor is stopping the car to take a lamp from a stranger's trash.

Being poor is making lunch for your kid when a cockroach skitters over the bread, and you looking over to see if your kid saw.

Being poor is believing a GED actually makes a goddamned difference.

Being poor is people angry at you just for walking around in the mall.

Being poor is not taking the job because you can't find someone you trust to watch your kids.

Being poor is the police busting into the apartment right next to yours.

Being poor is not talking to that girl because she'll probably just laugh at your clothes.

Being poor is hoping you'll be invited for dinner.

Being poor is a sidewalk with lots of brown glass on it.

Being poor is people thinking they know something about you by the way you talk.

Being poor is needing that 35-cent raise.

Being poor is your kid's teacher assuming you don't have any books in your home.

Being poor is six dollars short on the utility bill and no way to close the gap.

Being poor is crying when you drop the mac and cheese on the floor.

Being poor is knowing you work as hard as anyone, anywhere.

Being poor is people surprised to discover you're not actually stupid.

Being poor is people surprised to discover you're not actually lazy.

Being poor is a six-hour wait in an emergency room with a sick child asleep on your lap.

Being poor is never buying anything someone else hasn't bought first.

Being poor is picking the 10 cent ramen instead of the 12 cent ramen because that's two extra packages for every dollar.

Being poor is having to live with choices you didn't know you made when you were 14 years old.

Being poor is getting tired of people wanting you to be grateful.

Being poor is knowing you're being judged.

Being poor is a box of crayons and a $1 coloring book from a community center Santa.

Being poor is checking the coin return slot of every soda machine you go by.

Being poor is deciding that it's all right to base a relationship on shelter.

Being poor is knowing you really shouldn't spend that buck on a Lotto ticket.

Being poor is hoping the register lady will spot you the dime.

Being poor is feeling helpless when your child makes the same mistakes you did, and won't listen to you beg them against doing so.

Being poor is a cough that doesn't go away.

Being poor is making sure you don't spill on the couch, just in case you have to give it back before the lease is up.

Being poor is a $200 paycheck advance from a company that takes $250 when the paycheck comes in.

Being poor is four years of night classes for an Associates of Art degree.

Being poor is a lumpy futon bed.

Being poor is knowing where the shelter is.

Being poor is people who have never been poor wondering why you choose to be so.

Being poor is knowing how hard it is to stop being poor.

Being poor is seeing how few options you have.

Being poor is running in place.

Being poor is people wondering why you didn't leave.
***
My family would like to add these items to the above list:

Being poor is being really happy when the school calls to tell you about the resources available for "new" families in the area.

Being Poor is your childs teacher "loaning" your kids school supplies and knowing you can't replace the pencils and paper and being grateful she didn't make you ask for the help.

Being Poor is being too white, too married and too employable to get any help.

Being Poor is hoping no one gets sick because you can't afford to go to any clinic and don't even think about the ER.

Being Poor is having an illness that people can't see from the outside so they don't believe anything is really wrong with you.

Being Poor is not being "disabled" enough.

Being Poor is your kids needing shoes and jeans and getting pissed off that they grew again and they are not any of these things at the thrift store when you need them.

Being poor is having a computer and one car so...your are told and it is deemed that you can't possibly be really "poor".

Being Poor is saving cooking oil for re-use and telling the kids it adds flavor to food and it's a old family secret recipe.

Being Poor is knowing the new box of cereal won't last long enough.

Being poor is waiting for the kids to get done eating, and then finishing their food and telling them you weren't really hungry anyway.

Being Poor is knowing you have family members that will never know what being poor really is and can't understand why you "choose" to continue living the way you do, and having friends think you are going to ask for help every time you look at them, so you don't have friends or family anymore.

Being Poor is hoping that the local temp job that is paying $7.50 an hour will be close enough to home so you don't have to spend half of your paycheck on the gas to get there.

Being poor is hiding from your kids in the bathroom with the shower on so they won't hear you crying about having to pay the bills.

Being Poor is knowing no one really trusts you because your poor and that means your "nasty, a theif or a lier."

So this year when you are stressing out about what to buy for Christmas presents...think about what being poor in America or wherever you are really means to some "real" people...and think outside the box. Tis the season for Peace, love and goodwill to all Men...that includes the poor too.
Have a blessed day,

From my back porch~ Full Moon Glory

BAD! Kitty Art Studio's back porch pictures.
***
Well today was boring...I didn't have the hand control that I wanted or needed to work on art, my arthritis is terrible! I'll have to hope for a better day tomorrow. I also did housework...with claw like hands, a terrible limp because of my bad hip and a wonderful day of not being able to eat anything because of the Lupus flare. I spent a lot of time with HGTV and my heating pad...Oh, I know you wish you had my glam lifestyle! LOL!
I hate my own body today...ARGH! I will sing love songs to myself for the rest of the night to make the pain go away. I'm thinking Led Zeppelin might work...or maybe Aretha Franklin...hmmmm, choices. I just want some good pain control drugs and chocolate! Love thy body! DAMN!
So, that's all for now...but those full moon pictures are pretty cool, right?
:) Humor me! I hurt all over...wwwaaahhhh!

Power is in the Numbers

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
The Power of Numbers in your life.
***

The essence of life is simple. We live this life to grow, manifest, develop spiritual awareness and universal love, and be of service. Life is a personal evolution of consciousness. It was the intention of the Father of Numerology, Pythagoras, born 580 B.C., Greece, to lift mankind from 1 (egocentricity) to 9 (selflessness). In so doing, he blended mathematics, music, mysticism, science, astronomy and philosophy to teach spiritual principle. Number interpretations describe best the understanding of your Soul's journey, people, and all fluctuations, positive and negative, throughout life.

Numerology is learning more about yourself. When you discover what numbers mean, it is as though someone gave you a magic wand. You can take back your power and be your own person. Since every letter has a numeric value, think of every word being filled with magic and power. If you align yourself with your essence and purpose here on earth and think and speak positive words to express them, you can change an unhappy condition.

Each number has a specific vibration, so when combined in a word, it sends out coded signals that change the shape of molecules and form. For example, the numeric value of love is 9, war is 6, God is 8, and note that when 8 is turned on its side, it is the infinity sign. Numbers and their equivalents can be positive or negative.

Let's look at the essence and energy each number 1 through 9 expresses or manifests. Remember your birth day vibration relates to one of these.

Number 1 (Birthday Vibration 1, 10, 19, 28)
Disposition: Personally and Mentally Resourceful
Color: Red
Gemstone: Ruby, Garnet
Flower: Iris, Lilac, Azalea
Musical Note: Middle C
Musical Appeal: Piano, Opera
Compatible Numbers: 3, 5, 9, 11, 22, 33
Incompatible Numbers: 6, 24

The power of 1 is aggressive, ambitious, and self-motivating. Success often comes from being independent, creative, following your own instincts. You're a born champion, crusader, explorer. You love being in the spotlight. People may see you as a nonconformist or unconventional. Your friends admire your ironic sense of humor. You can be absolutely charming, love entertaining. Your social and professional life are often interlaced. Situations will arise that teach self-reliance. You'll find opportunities to connect with the creative light within you. It is important to develop mentally and spiritually so not to become egocentric. Best productive years are between 28 and 55 years of age.

Number 2 (Birth Day Vibration: 2, 11, 20, 29)
Disposition: Emotionally concerned and sensitive
Color: Orange
Gemstone: Moonstone, Rutilated Quartz
Flower: Ivy
Musical Note: D
Musical Appeal: Pipe organ, Cello, Aria
Compatible Numbers: 2, 4, 6, 7
Incompatible Numbers: 5

Since 2's are dual natured, be careful of challenges, as 2's can flip from positive to negative. You want harmony in your environment, avoid confrontations, even deferring your needs to a more dominant personality. You have a gift for friendship and were born to inspire others through work or art. You are the power behind others, mobilizing them for action. Your work is methodical, detailed, a team player. Best productive years are between 29 and 56.

NUMBER 3 (Birth Day Vibration: 3, 12, 21, 30)
Disposition: Creative in communication, animated
Color: Yellow
Gemstone: Topaz, Galena
Flower: Daffodil, Orchid, Rose
Musical Note: E
Musical Appeal: Coronet, Thrombone, Band
Compatible Numbers: 1, 3, 5, 6
Incompatible Numbers: 4, 7

The spirit of 3 is communication in action: speaking, writing, acting. Gifted with super-imagination, optimism, and sense of humor, 3's creative talents are often found in entertainment, speaking, and sales. Dream big! 3 is active creation straight through to completion. Your luck is fantastic. Your charm opens many doors. Be careful the heart doesn't build romantic, fairy-tale castles that ignore responsibilities and reality. 3 awakens you to contribute joy, beauty and uplifting spirit in the world. Best productive years are between 21 and 57.

NUMBER 4 (Birth Day Vibration: 4, 13, 22, 31)
Disposition: Practical, Down-to-Earth
Color: Green
Gemstone: Emerald, Green Jade
Flower: Sweet Pea
Musical Note: F#
Musical Appeal: Fiddle, Guitar, Lute, Instrumental
Compatible Numbers: 2, 6, 8
Incompatible Numbers: 3, 5, 7, 9

4 is solid, stable, related to the material world. It has a grounded, earthy quality. If we didn't have the energy of 4 to build things, we wouldn't see the results of our creativity. 4's are able to construct stable, useful structures, whether home, family, or business. As a 4 vibration, you can amaze people with your determination to fix problems. Think big when bringing your ideas into form. You will want people around you who are loyal, tolerant, and enjoy fine food when entertaining. An overactive 4 can produce intellectual tyranny and stubbornness, so stay positive! Best productive years are between 22 and 58 years of age.

Number 5 (Birth Day Vibration: 5, 14, 23)
Disposition: Adventurer, Versatile
Color: Turquoise
Gemstone: Turquoise, Aquamarine
Flower: Carnation, Gardenia, Primrose
Musical Note: G
Musical Appeal: Bell, Trumpet, Rhythm
Compatible Numbers: 1, 3, 7, 9
Incompatible Numbers: 2, 4, 6

5's like change and desire freedom. Seen as radical, life is dull if it's not a living adventure. Travel anyone? You progress forward because you let go of the old, and are willing to try new things. 5 being a sensual number, your magnetism is strong. Having reached midpoint between 1 and 9, experiencing the material world, 5's now face learning spiritual love and awareness. Beware of impatience and getting scattered. Best productive years are between 23 and 59 years.

NUMBER 6 (Birth Day Vibration: 6, 15, 24)
Disposition: Crave love, friends and companionship, Conscientious
Color: Blue
Gemstone: Blue Sapphire, Blue-White Pearl, Diamond
Flower: Chrysanthemum, Dandelion, Tulip
Musical Note: G
Musical Appeal: Banjo, Hymn, Musical
Compatible Numbers: 2, 3, 4, 9
Incompatible Numbers: 1, 5, 7, 8

6 is associated with nurturing, harmony, responsibility for self and others. Personal creativity is raised to a higher level of conscienceness. Because of the need for security, you tend to be conservative and the great protector. Concern for others can be expressed through service work where people skills are important. You like to be needed. You are loved in your circle. If you become overly serious or fearful, self-righteousness and the need to control could surface. Best productive years are between 24 and 52 years of age.

Number 7 (Birth Day Vibrations: 7, 16, 25)
Disposition: Contemplative, Mystical
Color: Violet, Purple
Gemstone: Amethyst
Flower: Geranium, Marigold
Musical Note: B
Musical Appeal: Harp, Ballet
Compatible Numbers: 2, 4, 7
Incompatible Numbers:1, 3, 6, 8, 9

7's are cerebral, often spiritually and philosophically inclined. 7 offers transition and change, but not without reflection and introspection. It is a bridge to the spiritual realm, realizing limitations of the material world and time. In business, you analyze information thoroughly and can work alone. Highly intuitive, you are in tune with animals and nature. You have low tolerance for artificiality. Mates should share your interests and respect your private time. Under stress? Hurt? Master your tendency to withdraw, hide feelings, and be cynical. Best productive years are between 25 and 52 years of age.

Number 8 (Birth Day Vibrations: 8, 17, 26)
Disposition: Ambitious, Confident
Color: Rose, Mauve
Gemstone: Diamond, Beryl
Flower: Jasmine, Begonia
Musical Note: High C
Musical Appeal: Ukulele, Choir, Soprano
Compatible Numbers: 2, 4, 6
Incompatible Numbers: 7, 8, 9

Power number 8 is destined for big business and finance. Organizing people, solving problems, and giving advice are easy for you. You can distinguish yourself in the world of ideas through writing, design, research, and teaching.

You are connected simultaneously with both spiritual and material forces. Stay in the center. Use power and the material world wisely. Striving merely for a fortune, rather than personal accomplishment, can create harsh karmic learning lessons. Best productive years are between 26 and 53 years of age.

Number 9 (Birth Day Vibrations: 9, 18, 27)
Disposition: Humanitarian, Artistic
Color: Saffron, Orange-Yellow-Gold
Gemstone: Opal Flower: Magnolia, Oak
Musical Note: High D
Musical Appeal: Violin, Tenor, Symphony
Compatible Numbers: 5, 6, 9, 1, 3, 8
Incompatible Numbers: 4, 7

9 reminds us that the only thing that lasts is to love and be loved. It is the final lesson. Your strong emotional nature will be moved to help the planet and work for the benefit of others. You have many talents and must pay attention to your dreams, intuition, and coincidences. Be aware of the positive qualities of numbers 1 to 8 within yourself. You are the sum of your life experiences. Becoming materialistic or self-centered would be your downfall. Nurturing your spiritual side is essential. Choose a mate who is supportive of your passionate and artistic interests. Best productive years are between 27 and 54 years of age.

I am a number 9 for my birth number...and a 11 in my name number and my life path number is 7 (we will cover these other two later). All my children are 11's as well in their birth name numbers...and yes Mate Man is too. I love numerology and think it's fun to learn new things and then share and talk about them. Today...I want to know, what's your birth number? Does the description about your number ring true for you?
Tell me I'd love to know.
Also up for Today... I am hoping to get some more work done, yesterday ended up not being what I thought it was going to be, with my work for the day being a disappointment and so I tossed it. I am going to start again today and see if I can get it right. Try-Try Again...
I was able to get some cool full moon pictures as the moon rose last night so I'll post those later on and share the view from my back porch. Ummm, let's see...I did get some nice feedback on a couple of other sites about my new works...nice as always to hear reviews, thank you one and all...one wasn't great but I value the perspective...and hey... art is subjective...so to each their own.
I can dig it. I actually got some real good ideas from the negative feedback about something that is going to help out with this new work...so it's all good!
I guess that's all for this morning, I have to feed the rug rats and get them off to school (I can't wait for that!) then I can settle into work for the day.
Ta-Ta for Now readers!
Talk to me...sheesh!

New work finished "Harlequin"

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
Another New Work Completed!
'Harlequin'
16"X20"
Handmade and painted poly clay faces, oils and crackle
Woot!
***
This is a work I have been playing with, it was done just for fun and I worked on it in between my more serious works. I always have at least two or three works going at one time so I don't get bogged down in tedium and details...one is always a "whimsical" type work...pure fun and fantasy...not serious and hard to do. Some agents I know call these my decorative works...I call them fun.
I hope you enjoy...it's really cold here today, it's even snowing just a little!
I am still working on my "dream" painting I mentioned earlier...so if I get to a place where it looks like something, I'll post a picture of that one too.
Later taters!

This weeks Goddess...The Mighty Isis!
***
Isis, the great goddess of Egypt, is like a multi-faceted diamond, reflecting an array of characteristics. She embodies traits from all the goddess from all cultures rolled into one. In a sense, she is the goddess of goddesses. A wonder goddess if you will. In fact one of her nicknames is "The One Who Is All."

According to Egyptian mythology, Isis assisted her husband Osiris, who was also her brother, during his earthly reign. In the Pyramid Texts, allusions are made that indicate that Isis predicted her husband's murder. Following his death, she tirelessly searched for his body and moved all forces of nature to rescue the corpse and give him a proper burial. However, his murderer, who also happened to be his brother Seth, stole the body and hacked it into fourteen pieces. Calamity!
Isis searched the scope of Egypt, gathering together his pieces and, with the god, Anubis, bound him together to make him whole, except for his phallus. Isis formed a penis and attached it to her deceased husband's body, so that he could impregnate her with their son Horus. For her wondrous skills of re-creation, she is called Isis, "great of magic."
You can channel this magical goddess's gifts. Here's how:

Honor the Wonder Woman in You
Isis embodies many characteristics. Her functions range from being the Great Mother to ruling the complexities of ritual magic. She presides over the tides of the ocean and can dive to incredible depths. She is a nurturer, a faithful wife, a sensual lover and a loving healer. She sewed, weaved, cooked, and cast magic spells. She taught her people the skills of reading and agriculture and was worshipped as the goddess of medicine and wisdom. Even in mourning she motivated herself into action. Isis is a wonder woman -- much like the modern woman of today. She reminds us to honor ourselves. Women are amazing creatures! Take a look at everything you do and appreciate how versatile and creative you are. We do it all; we multi-task like no man can!
Treat yourself with love and compassion and remember that it's okay to spoil yourself every once in a while. If you are not good to yourself, how can you expect anyone else to be?

Tap into your Intuition

Isis is the goddess who opens the third eye. She knows the secrets of the dead and living alike, and she is the guardian of our dreams. Isis holds tremendous conviction and self-belief. She knows the answers and you do, too. She reminds us that we can cultivate trust in our own psychic wisdom. Find the courage to trust your gut. If you have a question, go inside yourself, and the answers will come. If they don't right away, then rule with calm patience and love for yourself, just like this Egyptian High Priestess would.

The Art of Understatement

With her lunar disc headdress, long dark hair and Cleopatra-like cut, Isis is a striking figure. And yet she is also silent and subtle in her ways. She looked after her loved ones and yet she also exhibited favoritism and disdain in impulsive ways. In short, Isis is a little unpredictable. She reminds us that women are complex creatures. Which other living thing can cry and laugh at the same time? Sometimes men accuse us of being H.M. - high maintenance. But let me tell you, any intelligent, creative woman is complex.
We say one thing and sometimes do another; we like things "just so" and yet we are also easy going. We may mystify and confuse our lovers but what we offer is unquestionable. Isis reminds us that's it's okay to be fickle and spontaneous.

Face with Love

Isis rules with love and patience. When you find yourself about to lose it, call on her. She provides equilibrium and guidance. Isis is a goddess of love and forgiveness. She is the embodiment of the feminine as a vessel for divine expression. You can also call on her to reveal old memories and patterns that may be holding you back. She can help you release negativity and make space for better things. She invites us to put the past behind us and live in the present. She meets the world with tenderness and grace.

Consider the Magic

The roots of all magic come from ancient Egypt. Isis is the goddess of magic and alchemy. Another example of her magical skills occurred when she created the first cobra and used its venomous bite to coerce Ra into revealing his secret name. In Ancient Egypt, magic was a gateway to the divine was an everyday occurrence. They cast spells to attract a lover, heal a sick child and bring prosperity. Magic is still a part of our lives, we just don't realize it. When you visualize something and then give it up to the universe and it happens that's magic. Years ago, I asked the universe for a lover who was skillful and who wouldn't mind if I read at the breakfast table. It took a while for me to meet him, but my lover is now a handyman extraordinaire who inhales books like no other. Now, we both read at the table. Words have the power to manifest --that's magic. Synchronicity is also a form of magic. As is taking medicine and watching your body heal into health. Isis reminds us to honor the magic in our life. Every new day can be magical if we so chose.
***
Today I will be working on a new idea for a painting that came to me on a dream a couple of nights ago, and working in general on the rest of my life's duties. The magic of the ordinary everyday-ness of living is not lost on me. I have been treasuring every moment the past few weeks as my health has been suffering, and well it sometimes takes a little yucky time to remind yourself just how special being alive really is. I am not feeling very well and that makes each day even more bright for me...I know some people would just go back to bed, but when I feel the way I have been feeling...I get more excited about being up and at it. Call me stubborn, but being sick makes me want to push harder into the day and make the most of every moment. So, I will work on my new art and when I get to a stopping point I will snap a picture and share it with you all.
Now on to the day...and to take from our Goddess 101 class from above...on to the day with thoughts of magic, confidence and love. But I ain't sewing on any pee-pee's for anyone today! :)
To all I wish the very best day,
Heather

Weeks end thoughts...

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
Weeks End Thoughts....
****
Wherever you stand is holy ground. Wherever there is life, the ground is holy, and life is everywhere. The question is, are you in it? While money can lead you to feel rich, feeling rich can lead you to money. While you may be very careful about what you pay for with your money, you are probably less careful about what you pay for with your attention. How you spend your attention affects your life far more profoundly than how you spend your money. Your attention is the strongest currency at your disposal. While you may believe that all kinds of things have to happen before you can have what you want, you can have it quickly by recognizing you deserve it. Who would most like to know you love them today? Who would you be if you dropped your complaints? Whoever you think you are is smaller than who you really are. Why get rich quick when you can be rich now? Why live in a soap opera when you can star in a great love story? Why mess up your career with training? Why wait for your ship to come in when you are already on it? With but a shift in perception, what you thought was miles or lifetimes away may be but feet and moments away or right in your arms. Words are the least part of communication; energy and action speak far more truly. You do not need to import greatness from another; you just need to act on your own. You already know. You always have enough energy to do the things you love. You always have enough time to do the things that Spirit would have you do. You are doing better than you think you are. You are in integrity when the life you are living on the outside matches who you are on the inside. You are lovable not for what you do. You are lovable for who you are. You are not desperate, so don't act as if you are. You believe that if you had more time, you would have more peace. But it's the other way around: if you had more peace, you would have more time. Creating more time is not logistical, but attitudinal. You can tell what you believe by what you get. You can afford to be generous because you have access to an unlimited supply. You can be helping many people, but if you are not helping yourself, you have missed the one person you were born to heal. You can never love too much. True loving only multiplies itself and returns to bless us many times over. You can tell what you believe by what you are getting. You can't get a right brain answer to a left brain question. Ask your heart, not your mind. You can't get to heaven by putting other people through hell. You can't prepare to be great, because you already are. You can't worry love. You cannot achieve perfection. You can only discover it. You cannot fix yourself because you are not broken. The more you try to fix, the more you find to fix. Only wholeness heals. You cannot gain worth by achievement. You can only claim it by self-recognition. You choose, you cruise. You deserve only love because you are only love. You do not need to gain or import powers, for you were born with infinite power to create. You simply need to claim and use the power you already own. You don't always need to know beforehand. You don't have to make anything happen. Just line up with what wants to happen and let it. You don't have to make someone else wrong for you to be right. You don't need to beg for what you already deserve. You don't need to get anyone else to agree with your truth. You just need to live it. You don't need to make good things happen. You just need to let good things happen. You don't need to punish yourself for love. Or sex. Or money. Or your past. Or anything. You have more options than you recognize. You know where you belong. You need not wrestle for your good. Your good flows to you most easily when you are relaxed, open, and trusting. You only live once but it's forever. You own what you own not by money or force, but by your love for it and your inner connection to it. You own what you own not by money, force, or paper, but by your love for it and your heartfelt connection to it. You were born a genius, and you still are. Claim it and it will work wonders for you and the world. You were born to enjoy your life, not repair it. You will be paid for your services in proportion to the depth of your passion to offer them. You will find truth more quickly through delight than gravity. Let out a little more string on your kite. You will help more people through your delight than through your suffering. You will not get rid of your pain by glamorizing it. You will not solve lack by getting more. You will solve lack by recognizing abundance where you once saw lack. You're not a realist unless you believe in miracles. Your attention is the strongest currency at your disposal. Whatever you invest it in will yield significant returns. Your core being is your pure being. Your entire world could open up with one expansive thought. Your fears of oblivion are unfounded. Your first and greatest contribution to world peace is your own. Your future isn't what it used to be. Your gift to the world is not what you do. Your gift is your happiness. Your history is not your destiny. Your inability to adapt is not a sign of your weakness, but the strength of your inner guidance to remind you where your passion lives. Your issues do not retard forward movement; they propel it. Your journey of relationship is an adventure to reunite with yourself. Your thoughts do not create reality, but they do create your experience. Your thoughts do not create reality. They either permit it or not. Your true power lives in acting with a whole heart.

This is my Prayer for the Living for all days...I hope you enjoy.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Living in the present Moment to Moment

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
Thinking in the NOW!
***

Ever feel like you're living in the past or spending all your time anticipating the future? What it will be like "when I get that job..." or "when I find the one?" The key to finding any sense of peace is finding a way to live in the moment - after all, it's really all you've got at any given time!

So often, we tend to get caught up in reminiscing - whether it's about the one that got away, or what it was like to be a kid or anything else. We drift off into daydreams, imagining the feelings we can't seem to recapture. Memory can be a very powerful thing; but whether you realize it or not, it's also subjective. To put it simply, we remember things how we want to remember them (for better or worse), and by living in our memories, we lose the experience of what's going on where we are... then, we wonder why we aren't happy.

While looking back over times gone by is sometimes a fabulous thing (it can be said that creating warm memories is what the holidays are all about), it's hugely important to experience your life as it unfolds - every second of it! If you do your best to stay centered, taking good physical, mental and emotional care of yourself, you'll be too busy having the time of your life to focus on what could have been, what once was, or what may someday be. No one is saying don't ever reminisce, but don't wallow, or wish... create what you want now!

Likewise, it does nothing for your to exist for the future. In fact, living in the future is just as dangerous as living in the past! While it's vital to keep an eye on what you're doing to create the life you desire down the line, if you keeping putting off today what you think you'll be able to do tomorrow (when fill in the blank situation becomes your reality), you'll never do anything!

To manifest what you want down the road, create it in your life today. For instance, if you want to get in shape, start exercising now, not after you've lost ten pounds. If you want to find a new job, start building up your skills and looking now, not talking about when the opportunity comes your way. There's an old saying luck equals opportunity plus preparation (to put it mathematically: l = o + p). Get the preparation under way, and know in your heart that the opportunity will come your way.

This holiday, make it a point to unwrap the present! It will be the best gift you've ever gotten!

I am working on living moment to moment these days, and striving for personal tolerance of not being able to change my world day after day. Living in the moment really has been a life saver for me in the last few months, otherwise I am sure I would have drowned in a sea of regrets, fears, and anger. This struggle to be more centered and trusting in the life force has really saved my bacon even more so recently, and over the last three years more times than I can count. Living with a terminal, chronic disease has taught me several things...the most important one is that today is the most important day I will have on earth, no matter what day it is or what is going on. Good, Bad or Indifferent...every day above ground is good. I am unwrapping my present today, and loving every minute of it...Darn it!
Grin and bear it...
Happy Friday everyone!
Share your love, and live in the moments of your day.
We all have a terminal disease...it's called birth.
BAD! Kitty is now pointing the finger at herself...
every day above ground is GOOD! :) Listen up Self! I am determined to have a good one today, no matter what happens, or how well (or not so well) I happen to be feeling...open the present SELF (yes, I am now talking to myself in my own blog...I just keep getting more weird by the day), just rip that big bow off and have at it!
Love,
Heather

New Work In Progress- Reaching up

BAD! Kitty Art Studio
New Work in Progress
'Reaching Up'
***
I just got to a stopping point with my new work...and guess what... I didn't do an outdoor scene like I thought I would! I just painted from my gut instead and this is what happened. I have been struggling with my new work and my new life...and this is my prayer for me and my family.
Reaching Up is just that, me reaching up to heaven and bringing it back to earth for myself and my loved ones...I look forward to it drying enough to start the figure and "flesh" her out. Right now she is just roughed in with the dark's and mid-tones...waiting for the light of life to be brought in. It'll be a few days before that can happen, but I look forward to what happens next.
Let me know what you think of her so far...and the pictures came out a little darker than I would have liked but it's late here and the light is gone for the day, she is flying up through graded colours of dark violet, madder lake deep, crimson red, and brilliant yellows.
She is sketched in with red ocher...
Have a great night all...this tired Kitty is going to eat dinner!
